Receiving pictures will be an enjoyable experience during your long distance romance. Both you and your lady will treasure the pictures received from one another. Pictures will make your relationship seem more real and tangible. Pictures are a perfect way to share a special event, describe more about where you live and illustrate a subject that is difficult to explain.
At the beginning of your correspondence you will want to exchange pictures of each other. These pictures may be formal portraits or casual snapshots but either way they will serve their purpose to show each otherís appearance. As your correspondence continues it will be a matter of choice as to how often and how many pictures are exchanged. It may be easier and less costly for you to send pictures to your lady than it will be for her to send them to you so donít be disappointed if your collection of pictures from her is minimal.
How To Use Pictures
∑ Sending pictures through the mail is the most common way to exchange your photos. This may be the only way your lady can send pictures to you. Sending a few pictures with each of your letters will enhance your correspondence and build a stronger bond between you.
∑ If your lady has access to email or the internet you have several more options on how you can exchange pictures. Even if you are able to send pictures electronically you will still want to send her some pictures in the mail. These pictures will be the ones she will be able to show to other family members and friends so make sure they show you at your best.
∑ If you donít already have a digital camera considering purchasing one since this tool makes it very quick and easy to take and send pictures as an email attachment.
∑ An alternative to a digital camera is a scanner. This will enable you to digitize your pictures which can be sent as email attachments.
∑ Many photo development services now offer the option for digital pictures in addition to printed photos. These digital pictures may be given to you on a CD-Rom disk or make your pictures available for viewing on-line.
∑ You can send her a Floppy disk or CD-Rom disk with pictures if she has a computer at home.
∑ Keep in mind that if she has email access from home it may be limited to dial up access which she pays for by the hour. If you are sending pictures by email keep in mind the size of the pictures you send to her. If they are large (over 100 Kilobytes) then you may want to compress them or crop them to be smaller if you can. Check with her and ask if she has any restrictions on the size and quantity of email attachments she can receive.
∑ You can put you pictures on the internet for someone else to view if they have access to the internet. Several places offer you the ability to upload your digital pictures and create on-line photo albums. You can also create your own personal web page for just such a purpose. Just send the web page address to the people you would like to share this with.
∑ Learn how to take a good picture. Teach the people that take pictures of you how to compose a good picture. Most people instinctively want to put the face of the person they are taking a picture of in the center of their horizontal frame. Then they will stand back until they get your feet in the frame too. This will result in a very small picture of you dominated by the background. You lady will want a picture of you, not the background. A few simple tips will improve your pictures dramatically: try a vertical composition to get more of the person in the picture, put the personís head at the top of the frame so more of the person is in the picture (it is not necessary to include every part of your body in every picture), put the person to the side of the frame if you want to include more of the background as part of the picture, make sure there are not any trees or poles sticking out your head, use a flash in daylight pictures to fill in shadows on the face (put a piece of tissue over the flash to soften the effect) and use the red-eye reduction capability on your camera for indoor shots (you wonít look good to your lady if you have the eyes of a devil).
∑ The subject of the pictures you send can be just as important as sending the pictures themselves. You donít want to send her an endless series of pictures of you standing against the wall do you? Here are some ideas of what you can send to make it more interesting and personal. Have pictures taken of you: with family and friends, doing something you enjoy, engaged in everyday activities and what you do for different occasions.
∑ Pay attention to the small details that will be visible in your pictures. Be certain that your appearance is at itís best. Check your clothing and grooming to make sure that it is neat and attractive. Clean up any clutter that may be present in the background and foreground of the picture before it is taken.
∑ If the picture is a snap shot it probably can be effectively cropped to make a more attractive picture of the important subject. This can be done with the photo editing software that comes with your camera or scanner.
